Greene has an identity crisis
By ROBERT TYCHKOWSKI -- Edmonton Sun

SAN JOSE -- Nice trip for Oilers defenceman Matt Greene.

At least, he says he's Oilers defenceman Matt Greene, but he has no identification to prove it.

It seems somebody broke into his car outside Marty Reasoner's house in Terwillegar before the trip, swiping his wallet, which, of course, contained his driver's license and credit cards.

"I was only going to be in there for five minutes and it ended up being about 20, because I can't take Marty for much longer than that," he joked. "And when I came back it was gone."

To compound matters, he lost his passport somewhere in Santa Monica. Meaning he has to cross the border back to Canada without a lick of ID.

And it wasn't much fun trying to get into his hotel room after he, you guessed it, misplaced his room key. There he is, a six-foot-three, 223-pound dude with broken front teeth and zero identification, asking the front desk of swanky hotel for a room key.

"And I'm sweating profusely,'' he said. "Because I just finished working out."

They eventually escorted him up. That night, he was a healthy scratch. "When it rains, it pours," he said.

- A handful of Oilers prospects from Edmonton's ECHL affiliate in Stockton, including Devan Dubnyk, came in to see the big club last night.
