PHOENIX -- Craig MacTavish is still trying to wrap his head around the two penalties the Oilers took in the process of conceding a power-play goal against the Colorado Avalanche.

With Jason Smith in the penalty box, the Oilers gave up a power-play marker to Andrew Brunette, but, on the play, took two more penalties.

"I've never seen that," MacTavish. "I was not prepared for that, giving up a goal and then being on a five-on-three right after. I've never seen that."

Ladislav Smid and Shawn Horcoff were both penalized for separate infractions as the Avs scored.

Smid was given a holding penalty, while Horcoff took a hooking penalty.

The Oilers were able to kill off the two-man advantage.
