The further away from the ice surface you get, the easier the game appears. Maybe that's why all the deep thinkers sitting on press row at Rexall Place believe they know it all.
Edmonton Oilers coach Craig MacTavish gave that perspective a try for Monday's 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers - watching from on high while assistant coach Craig Simpson ran the bench - and it's something he says he'll do again this pre-season.
"The game's pretty simple from up there," smiled MacTavish, who was back in his regular spot behind the bench against the Phoenix Coyotes last night. "I see why you guys write those articles.
"It's definitely a different perspective. You can see more of your team defence and positional play. When you're at ice level, you pick up the toughness and intensity of the game."
