Fly at night, play today

DENVER -- While the Oilers were jetting in from Vancouver, the Avalanche had to fly in from the Show Me State and didn't hit the sack until 1 a.m.

"It's a little bit fairer from our perspective than the last time we did this," said MacTavish, whose last trip to Denver was another later-night affair after a home game against Anaheim.

"It's a long flight. It's not like going from Edmonton to Calgary.

"You get into bed at 4 a.m. It's a tough turnaround.

"I don't know that too many teams have this tough a turnaround, but we at least we know they played last night."

OUCH: Marc-Andre Bergeron sat for a second straight game to rest an aching right knee.
