Pisani in the middle

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Fernando Pisani debuted at centre yesterday. After a few practices in preparation, he moved to the middle between Ethan Moreau and Radek Dvorak.

"I feel comfortable playing centre. The only difference is the faceoffs, just trying to learn different techniques," he said, adding Jarret Stoll and Shawn Horcoff have been giving him plenty of tips. "You try to combine the two ways and see what's best for me. You're only going to get better as you practise at it."

Every so often wingers get to take a draw when their centre gets kicked out, but Pisani didn't get much action there.

"Chop (Moreau) doesn't let me take them. He usually goes in. I don't even try. Now he can't do that."

In Pisani, Moreau and Dvorak, they have a line that can play shut-down defence when it has to and turn it up ice and apply a good forecheck when it has to.

"We want to put a line together that can cycle the puck a little more effectively than what we've seen from Michael (Peca) in the middle with that line," said MacTavish, who had Peca skating with Georges Laraque and Todd Harvey when he wasn't killing penalties.
