Yan Stastny, son of ex-NHLer Peter, summoned from Iowa of the AHL Tuesday, made his NHL debut between Todd Harvey and Georges Laraque. Stastny, 23, played 7:42, was scoreless and was a minus-1.

AROUND THE RINK ... Jason Smith (fractured toe) and Ethan Moreau (sprained ankle) took the morning skate but didn't dress, although Smith could see action as early as tomorrow against San Jose ... Michael Peca (groin) took a short skate and was scratched ... Matt (Mack Truck) Greene, struck down by an SUV Saturday night outside a night club, skated again yesterday but will get another day or two to heal.

COACH'S COMMENT ...

"(The loss is) hard to slough off. It's going to linger for a while," said Oiler coach Craig MacTavish. "Given any other circumstances, this would be a game we could quickly get over and start focusing on San Jose Friday. It was one of those games where we deserved better."
