Conklin starts, but who finishes?

Ty Conklin has drawn the short straw.

He'll be the guy in the barrel.

He'll start in goal tonight against the Los Angeles Kings.

So Jussi Markkanen can be counted on to come into the game in relief and get the win and set some sort of all-time record?

"We already have to have that record,'' said coach Craig MacTavish of pulling his goaltender in three straight games and having the reliever come in and get the win in every one of those games.

"It's been a wild set of circumstances,'' said the coach of the team which came from behind two-goal deficits to win three straight games and then came from behind four different one-goal leads to beat the Vancouver Canucks with Conklin in relief of Markkanen Wednesday night in Vancouver.

MacTavish doesn't know whether he should be complimented for pulling his goaltender at the right time or criticized for starting the wrong guy every game.

"I really thought Jussi was ready to have a terrific game. He was sharp in practice, unbelievable in the morning skate and good in the warm-up,'' said MacT.

"There are a lot of teams struggling with goaltending right now. A lot of goaltenders are having problems with the reduced equipment size and the lack of protection in front of them with the new rule changes.

"We just have to work our way through it. It's up to our goaltenders to get the job done.

"If they can't get it done, we'll have to do something else.''
