HOW THE HELL ARE YA?
I'm doin' great right now.
IT'S SUMMER VACATION RIGHT NOW. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
I just got back Friday night from my agent's camp in Minnesota. So I'm just relaxing with my girlfriend before world juniors camp (Wednesday to Aug. 16 in Vancouver and Whistler).
YOUR NICKNAME IS DOOBIE. IF YOU COULD PICK A DIFFERENT ONE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I actually like that one. I've had it since I was a kid. I get some odd responses from people who don't know I'm a hockey player. Other than that, I'll stick with Doobie.
PICK FIVE WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF.
Energetic, fun, athletic, humorous ... uh, tall.
WHAT WERE YOU LIKE IN HIGH SCHOOL?
I spent the last few years of school in Kamloops and we're not liked too much there. Something to do with Blazers' reputations of the past. I learned to stick to myself and hang out with the guys on the team.
WHAT'S YOUR MOST TREASURED MATERIAL POSSESSION?
I have a goalie stick signed by Fred Brathwaite in my room. I've had it since I was a kid and I was probably the happiest kid in the world when I got it. He's still my favourite goalie, even though I don't know if he's in the league anymore.
IF I'M BUYING, WHAT ARE YOU DRINKING?
Something simple, just a Kokanee.
WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU PUNCHED AND WHY?
I'm not too violent of a person, so probably my brother. Just for fun. We were floating down the river on a raft.
NOT ONE OF THE KELOWNA ROCKETS?
Oh well, if you want to go hockey-wise, I could give you a list. Probably J.D. Watt from the Vancouver Giants would be my most memorable. His job is an aggravator and he's great at it. They scored and he was on top of me. I wasn't too happy about it. I think my stick got broken over the back of his legs and it went from there.
WHAT'S YOUR MOST UNPLEASANT CHARACTERISTIC?
I can get pretty seriously when I'm playing hockey. Even at practice. A lot of guys, if they're just screwing around or things aren't going well, I can get pissed off pretty quick. But I've learned to tone that down a bit.
WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAR YOU EVER OWNED?
A 1993 Pontiac Sunbird. It was in great shape.
WHAT REPAIRS CAN YOU DO ON YOUR CAR?
I don't need to do repairs right now because I have a 2003 Mazda Protege. It hasn't been in the shop but the tires are a little sketchy. I just go over to Kal-Tire.
CAN YOU COOK?
Not really. I'll try anything but the final outcome is usually not very good. I took a cooking class in Grade 10 but it was a bit of a gong show.
WHAT'S YOUR CELLPHONE RINGTONE?
Walk This Way by Aerosmith
WHO'S THE MOST FAMOUS PERSON IN YOUR CELLPHONE SPEED DIAL?
ARE YOU EASILY EMBARRASSED?
I used to be but not at all anymore. No, definitely not.
WHAT TV SERIES DO YOU WANT TO OWN ON DVD?
The Family Guy. I can't get enough of it.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE UNHEALTHY FOOD?
There's a lot but I'll go with pop, especially Pepsi. I'm trying to stop drinking so much.
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO VACATION?
I want to do the Mexico thing. A lot of my friends have gone and I've heard nothing but good reviews.
WHAT'S THE BEST CONCERT YOU'VE EVER SEEN?
I haven't been to many concerts. Nickelback was really good in Kamloops. But just for show, the Black Eyed Peas put on a great show.
IF YOU WEREN'T PLAYING HOCKEY, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?
Just going to school. I haven't really thought of anything else yet. I'm sure I'd have something else figured out. I guess I would be golfing a lot more and I'd probably be down to about 140 pounds.
YOU'RE 19. WHAT'S BEEN THE BEST YEAR SO FAR?
Last season. We didn't have a great team. We were young but the second half of the season was really special. Everyone came together and we started winning. We made a run for the playoffs, made it and gave Kootenay a pretty good run.
WHAT'S YOUR WORST HABIT?
Probably the pop drinking. This summer was about trying to stop that.
WHAT'S THE FUNNIEST THING YOU'VE EVER SEEN DURING A GAME?
One of my teammates hit the crossbar from our own ringette line. That's the only thing I can think of. He took a wrist shot and hit the crossbar at the other end. It was Keaton Ellerby and it was in Vancouver, so it would have been against Marek Schwartz.
CAN YOU BE CONVINCED TO KARAOKE AND, IF SO, WHAT'S YOUR SONG?
Oh dear. I doubt it. If it was the right occasion, I'd get up there. My song? Maybe that 'halfway there' song by Bon Jovi.
WHICH SONG? SING IT FOR ME.
I'm not singing it for you. We just went over that. It's Living on a Prayer.
