Good crop of prospects

The Oilers are one of the clubs that has repeatedly claimed to be in dire straits under the old collective bargaining agreement but general manager Kevin Lowe was able to get most of his house in order before the lockout began.

That's to say the Oilers are stocked with good prospects such as Raffi Torres, Jarret Stoll and Ales Hemsky. Put into a group with Ryan Smyth and Jason Smith, and the Oilers have a solid nucleus. The club wanted to simply limp to the end of the previous CBA (financially speaking). Essentially, the team has become tired of grooming players for other teams and it should prosper in the new NHL world.

Players such as Cory Cross and Igor Ulanov likely are done as Oilers but two defence prospects, Doug Lynch and Jeff Woywitka, are nearly ready.
