The lockout has resulted in layoff notices for six people in the Edmonton Oilers office.

Six employees, including media relations man Steve Knowles and fitness consultant Daryl Duke, who has been working with the Edmonton Road Runners, have been served 45 days layoff notice in the first mass staffing cut since the lockout began.

Knowles, who has been with the team in a media relations capacity since the early 1980s, and Duke join equipment man Sparky Kulchisky as team staff in the hockey operations department being cut. Kulchisky was laid off in November.

The overall office staff is down by about 15 people from last season.

Alan Watt, Oilers' vice-president of marketing and communications, said Knowles, Duke and others could be recalled if the lockout ends.
