Murray looks to move up in draft
By BRUCE GARRIOCH, QMI Agency

Bryan Murray is ready to wheel and deal again.

While the Senators GM said he doesn’t believe the Oilers or Avalanche will move the first two picks in the draft, Murray will call his counterparts with Florida, New Jersey and the Islanders to see if they want to deal.

The Senators have five picks in the first two rounds — including the Nashville Predators’ first-round pick (No. 21 overall) — to dangle to move up to the third, fourth or fifth slot.

“I’m certainly going to make (calls),” said Murray, who added he’ll consult with assistant GM Tim Murray and top scout Pierre Dorion.

“I’m sure the No. 1 and No. 2 picks likely won’t be available, but I suspect after that teams will be interested in talking.

“If there is a guy that we like, and he’s still there at No. 3 or No. 4, we’ll make overtures to those teams to see if they’re interested in talking.”

Murray said this is a deep draft.

“There’s no dominant player at the top end. There’s no (Sidney) Crosby or (Alex) Ovechkin,” said Murray. “We’ve all heard that. Where we’re picking, our guys feel there’s a real good possibility of getting a good player.”
