NHL Playoffs: CHI @ DET

Oilers GM tried to land both Hall and Seguin
By ROBERT TYCHKOWSKI, QMI Agency

LOS ANGELES -- Steve Tambellini tried hard to hit the home run -- getting Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin -- but couldn't swing the deal.

"We had some good discussions," said the Oilers GM. "But by the end I knew that Boston really wanted to make a selection that was really important for his organization, also. But it was worth a try -- I would have loved to have them both." When that didn't work, he kept pressing for three through 15.

"We were really aggressive in the top half of the first round, like most teams, but as we got down into the second half our scouts felt that we didn't want to give up the picks. We're going to have an important second round on Saturday. I'm looking forward to that." The Oilers are set to make the first pick of Saturday's action. TSN reported that Tambellini put Andrew Cogliano on the block again, for Florida's 15th pick, but they turned him down.

"That's unfortunate, again," he said of the second Cogliano trade lead in two summers -- following the failed Dany Heatley deal in 2009. "Therešs no comment on that."

After benching Brad Richards should the New York Rangers eventually just buy him out?
  Yes.
  Might be a good idea.
  No.
  Not sure.
