If all goes according to plan today, Evander Kane could find himself being a top five pick at the NHL entry draft.
And possibly the highest Vancouver Giant to be chosen ever since Gilbert Brule went sixth overall in 2005.
But Kane knows it's out of his control.
"I've done all I can do," he said. "My expectations are what they've been all year and that's to go as high as I can possibly go and we'll find out where that is [today]."
However, the Vancouver native wouldn't mind being chosen by his childhood team, and no, it's not the Canucks.
"My favourite team growing up is Colorado [who holds the third overall pick], that'll be a great place to go."
Ranked in the top five by all the major scouting organizations, the Giants forward recorded 48 goals and 96 points in 61 games last season in the WHL, while playing a style similar to that of his favourite player, Jarome Iginla.
"I bring a good goal-scoring ability to the table, and I'm a guy not afraid to play physical and go into the corners," said Kane. "I'm an exciting player to watch."
Come tonight though, he'll be the one on the edge of his seat.
"The biggest thrill for me is having the opportunity to play in the NHL next year."
* With Kane a lock for a first-round pick, he could be joined by two other B.C. boys - Saskatoon Blades' Stefan Elliott and Red Deer Rebels' Landon Ferraro.
Elliott is an offensive defenceman (see sidebar), while Ferraro, son of former NHLer and current T.V. analyst Ray, is a goal-scoring forward, drawing comparisons to Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Sharp.
