VANCOUVER - John Ferguson Jr. isn't going to sit still.
The Toronto Maple Leafs GM said tonight he is going to try to get a top five pick in tomorrow's NHL entry draft.
While Ferguson Jr. is confident he can get a player at No. 13, he told reporters following today's GM's meeting that he has held discussions wiith several teams in an attempt to move up.
But, Ferguson Jr. said the teams at the top - St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Washington and Boston - are all asking heavy prices for their selections.
"It's not about trying harder, cause you can try as hard as you want, it's about going higher (to meet the asking price). The prices are all high," said Ferguson Jr. with a wide smile.
Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero said he has been fielding a lot of calls for his No. 2 pick.
"We've got a guy we want to take and we're listening to offers. That doesn't mean we're going to do anything," said Shero.
