A look at Crosby's career

(CP) - A look at the major junior hockey career of Sidney Crosby:

June 7, 2003 - Drafted first overall at the age of 15 by the Rimouski Oceanic in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League entry draft.

Aug, 16, 2003 - Finished Junior World Cup with four goals and two assists in six games for Canadian under-18 team after turning 16 earlier that month.

Sept. 12, 2003 - Scores a hat trick in his first regular season game with Rimouski.

Sept. 29, 2003 - Wins the first QMJHL offensive player of the week award of the season. He goes on to win that honour 12 more times over the next two seasons. Has 10 goals and eight assists in his first eight games of the regular season.

Nov, 7, 2003 - Named QMJHL's player of the month for October. Goes on to win the monthly award seven out of a possible 12 times over the next two seasons. Has 18 goals and 24 assists in his first 20 games.

Nov. 28, 2003 - Scores a highlight-reel goal against the Quebec Remparts in which he picks the puck up on the blade of his stick, raises it to waist-level and reaches forward from behind the goal-line to drop the puck in the net.

Nov. 29, 2003 - Don Cherry calls Crosby a "hotdog" for that goal and Crosby's celebration of it on Hockey Night in Canada.

Dec. 16, 2003 - Named to Canadian junior team for world under-20 hockey championship in Helsinki.

Dec. 28, 2003 - Becomes the youngest player to score a goal for a Canadian junior team in a 7-2 win over Switzerland.

Jan. 5, 2004 - Wins silver medal with Canadian team and completes world junior tournament with two goals and three assists in six games.

Feb. 13, 2004 - Rimouski Oceanic threaten to sit Crosby for upcoming road games in Lewiston, Me., and Drummondville, Que., unless on-ice officials start cracking down on abuse of him.

March, 14, 2004 - Concludes regular season by winning league scoring race and setting a league record for points in a season by a 16-year-old with 54 goals and 81 assists in 59 games.

May 19, 2004 - Wins Canadian Hockey League's MVP, top scorer and top rookie awards.

Sept. 18, 2004 - Scores a shorthanded goal and has two assists for the Oceanic in the opening game of the 2004-05 season.

Oct. 1, 2004 - Injured in a knee-on-knee hit with Halifax centre Frederik Cabana and misses next four games. Cabana subsequently suspended for eight games.

Nov. 13, 2004 - Has four assists in one period for the third time in his major junior career.

Nov. 21, 2004 - Sprains ankle and pulls out of the QMJHL's two-game series against a Russian team.

Dec. 16, 2005 - Named to Canadian junior team for second straight year.

Jan. 5, 2005 - Helps Canada win gold medal at world under-20 hockey championship. Ends tournament with six goals and three assists in six games and ties a Canadian team record for most power-play goals in a tournament with five. Fourth in team scoring.

Jan. 7, 2005 - Red Canadian team jersey that Crosby wore in gold-medal game goes missing from his bag on flight from Winnipeg to Mont-Jolie, Que. Hockey Canada pulls his white jersey, which Crosby wore in other games during the tournament and had a top bid of $20,000, from on-line charity auction.

Jan. 11, 2005 - Red jersey found in Montreal-area mailbox.

Jan. 12, 2005 - Montreal police confirm jersey is Crosby's, arrest a Montreal-area airline employee and charge him with theft under $5,000.

Jan. 13, 2005 - Crosby's jersey is returned to him at his home in Cole Harbour, N.S., and Hockey Canada puts his white jersey back up for auction.

Jan. 17, 2005 - Crosby pulls out of the CHL's Top Prospects game citing injury, which draws the ire of the owner of the host Vancouver Giants. "For the guy who wants to be the next Wayne Gretzky ... the history of Wayne Gretzky is that he would be here with one leg if that's what it took because it's good for the game," said Ron Toigo.

Jan. 18, 2005 - Crosby defends his decision to pull out of the Top Prospects Game. "Anyone who knows me, and I don't think that a lot of the people who are making some of those comments know me that well, but the people who know me know I'd be there if I could," said Crosby.

Jan. 19, 2005 - Crosby's white Canadian team jersey from the world junior tournament fetches $22,100 in an online auction for charity.

Jan. 25, 2005 - Don Cherry questions why Crosby pulled out of the Top Prospects game, given Crosby's stellar performances for his Rimouski club before and after the game. "The thing that really gets me is the two games just before that he had eight points in two games. It's beyond me how a guy could have a bad back and do that."

Feb. 11, 2005 - Crosby's 37-game point streak with the Oceanic is snapped. Had 41 goals and 52 assists during that string, which started on Oct. 23, 2004.

Feb. 13, 2005 - Scores 50th goal of the season in 50th game in two-goal, three-assist performance against Lewiston, which Rimouski wins 7-4.

March 9, 2005 - Reebok announces endorsement contract with Crosby reported to be a five-year, $2.5-million US deal.

March 11, 2005 - Has a career-high seven-point game with three goals and four assists in Rimouski's 10-6 win over Rouyn-Noranda.

March, 20, 2005 - Wins second straight Canadian Hockey League scoring title with 66 goals and 102 assists in 62 games, with a plus-minus of plus-76. Rimouski ends regular season going 28 straight games without a loss during which Crosby contributes 40 goals and 53 assists.

May 10, 2005 - Rimouski sweeps Halifax in QMJHL final and Crosby named playoff MVP with 14 goals and 17 assists in 13 games.

May 21, 2005 - Crosby has a goal and an assist in Rimouski's 4-3 overtime loss to host London to open the Memorial Cup.

May 25, 2005 - Wins Canadian Hockey League's MVP and top scorer award for the second year and becomes the only player in CHL history to win back-to-back MVP honours; Scores a goal and gets an assist in Rimouski's 4-3 win over Kelowna in the Memorial Cup.

May 28, 2005 - Has a hat trick and two assists in Rimouski's 7-4 semifinal win over Ottawa in the Memorial Cup.

May 31 - Held scoreless in Memorial Cup final against London, but finishes as the tournament's top scorer and named to tournament all-star team with six goals and five assists in six games.

July 5, 2005 - Gatorade announces endorsement deal with Crosby.

July 6, 2005 - Crosby's agent Pat Brisson confirms he is in discussions with Swiss club Lugano.

July 7, 2005 - Lugano GM and president confirms he is pursuing Crosby. Deal offered is reported at three years and about $10 million.

July, 8, 2005 - Crosby says he wants to play in the NHL next season if there is one and explains that Lugano is a backup plan in case the NHL doesn't operate in 2005-06.

July 22, 2005 - NHL holds draft lottery in New York and Pittsburgh earns the right to draft Crosby first overall.
