Sidney Crosby might have to wait to be No. 1.
Crosby, who is the top-rated prospect this season, would certainly have been the first overall pick at the 2005 entry draft at the Corel Centre.
Now, with yesterday's cancellation of the NHL season, there's no guarantee the summer crapshoot will be held.
While the Senators have been assured they'll be host the 2008 draft if this year's is cancelled, nobody within the organization knows what's going to happen.
"At some point, a decision will have to be made regarding the entry draft," Senators chief operating officer Cyril Leeder said yesterday. "That decision has not been made at this time."
If the draft is cancelled, there's going to be a lot of questions regarding who will get the No. 1 pick.
Senators GM John Muckler was asked if he thought his club might have a shot at Crosby.
"Let's put it this way: We've got a better chance than we did yesterday," he said.
