DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings inked Gustav Nyquist to a two-year entry-level contract on Friday.

Nyquist, the Wings' fourth-round pick in the 2008 draft, finished his junior season at Maine as the school's leading scorer with 18 goals and 51 points. The slick centre is one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the player voted best in American college hockey.

Over three years at Orono, the 21-year-old native of Sweden posted 50 goals and 144 points in 113 games.

Nyquist was a Hobey Baker finalist last season after leading the country with 61 points (19 goals, 42 assists). In 2008-09, Nyquist tallied 13 goals and 32 points, becoming the first freshman to lead the Black Bears in scoring since Paul Kariya did so in 1992-93.

He will report to the Wings' American Hockey League affiliate in Grand Rapids.
