DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brian Rafalski underwent knee surgery on Tuesday and will be lost to the club indefinitely.
The 37-year-old had an arthroscopic procedure done on the knee that has been bothersome since the blueliner was 18. Rafalski had offseason back surgery that could have affected his inability to work his legs in the weight room, according to Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock.
Rafalski has registered two assists and a plus-five rating in two games this season.
In other Red Wings' news, the club also placed veteran forward Kris Draper on injured reserve with a groin injury and recalled defenseman Doug Janik from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.
