Anaheim Ducks defenceman Francois Beauchemin played through a debilitating injury during the first-round playoff series with the Detroit Red Wings.

Ducks general manager Bob Murray told reporters Tuesday that Beauchemin played with a torn ACL in his knee and will need surgery to fix the problem.

"He promises me he'll be ready by the start of the year, and I don't argue with Beauch," Murray said. "If he says he'll be ready, he'll be ready."

Despite the injury, Beauchemin averaged more than 25 minutes of ice time against Detroit, two minutes more than his regular-season average, and had two goals and four assists.
