COLUMBUS - The Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday named former head coach Ken Hitchcock as a special advisor to the organization.

Hitchcock's primary duties in his new role will be personnel evaluation in the AHL, collegiate and junior hockey ranks.

Columbus relieved Hitchcock as head coach in February last season after he guided the club to a 125-123-36 record over three-plus seasons.

In parts of 12 seasons as an NHL head coach, Hitchcock amassed a 533-372-136 record in 1,041 games with Dallas, Philadelphia and Columbus, winning a Stanley Cup with the Stars in 1999.
