Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov was arrested Wednesday on domestic violence-related charges.

The Denver Police Department posted the news on its official Twitter account just before 9 p.m. Eastern time, adding that Varlamov had turned himself into DPD detectives and was being processed at Denver County jail.

According to the Denver Post, Varlamov was arrested on second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault charges but it’s still unclear if there was more than one alleged victim. The charges relate to an incident Tuesday.

“Varlamov arrested for 1 class 4 felony count, one misdemeanor for alleged domestic violence that supposedly involved kidnapping,” Post reporter Ryan Parker said on Twitter.

The Avalanche know about Varlamov’s legal situation, according to a statement posted to the team website.

“The Colorado Avalanche organization is aware of the allegations concerning Semyon Varlamov,” the Avs said. “At this time, and until the conclusion of this investigation, the Avalanche organization will have no further comment on this situation.”

Varlamov has gone 7-1-0 with the Avalanche this season and is among the NHL leaders in goals-against average and save percentage.
