With rumours swirling that Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville will jump to the Montreal Canadiens, Stan Bowman did his best to quash them Tuesday.
Bowman, the Blackhawks general manager, told the Chicago Tribune he expected Quenneville to be behind the Chicago bench next season. When asked if Quenneville will be back, Bowman answered in the affirmative.
"Yeah, I think we made that clear at the end of the year, that we're trying to look forward and get better as a group," Bowman told the Tribune. "But I don't talk about rumours. I haven't and I don't want to start now."
Quenneville is under contract to the Blackhawks through the 2013-14 season but some still expect new Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin to orchestrate his move to the Habs.
Bowman did fire one member of his coaching staff Tuesday, though. Assistant coach Mike Haviland was let go after four seasons with the 'Hawks and three years as the head coach of their AHL team.
