CHICAGO - The Chicago Blackhawks announced late Monday that forward Patrick Sharp underwent an emergency appendectomy and will miss the next 3-to-4 weeks.

The 29-year-old center finished last season with 34 goals and a career-best 71 points in 74 games with the Blackhawks.

Chicago begins its preseason slate on September 20, and starts the 2011-12 regular season on October 7 in Dallas.
