CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks assigned forwards Ryan Potulny and Ben Smith to Rockford of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Potulny has no points in two games this season. The center signed with the Blackhawks as a free agent in the offseason after recording 15 goals and 17 assists over 64 regular-season games for Edmonton last season.

The 87th overall pick of the Flyers in the 2003 draft, Potulny has registered 22 goals and 27 assists in 118 career contests over parts of five seasons with Philadelphia (2005-08), Edmonton (2008-10) and Chicago.

Smith, 22, who made his NHL debut against the Oilers on October 29, is scoreless in three games this year.
