Canada names Eric Staal captain for worlds

Carolina Hurricanes forward Eric Staal will captain Team Canada at the world hockey championship.
The 28-year-old, who also captains the ‘Canes, is playing in his second world championship and won gold at the 2007 tournament. He also helped Canada win gold at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and won the Stanley Cup with the ‘Canes in 2006. He’s the only member of the Triple Gold Club on Canada’s roster.
Winnipeg Jets winger Andrew Ladd and Dallas Stars defenceman Stephane Robidas will serve as alternate captains.
Ladd, 27, is playing in his third straight world championship. He won gold with Canada at the 2005 world junior tournament and the Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2006 and the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.
Robidas, 36, is playing in his third world championship.
