The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Justin Soryal to a one-year, two-way contract.

Soryal, who was in the Rangers' minor league system the last three years, ranked fourth in the AHL with 220 penalty minutes last season, adding three goals and three assists in 79 contests.

"Justin is a big, physical forward that will bring an element of toughness to the organization," said Ron Francis, the club's director of hockey operations.

The 6-foot-3, 211-pound left winger will make $525,000 at the NHL level, or $80,000 at the minor-league level in 2011-12.
