The Carolina Hurricanes agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $525,000 with forward Jiri Tlusty on Friday.

"Jiri is still a very young player with an upside," said 'Canes general manager Jim Rutherford. "After dealing with some tough injuries, we feel he can play an important role for the Hurricanes next season."

The 23-year-old missed the start of this past season due to recovering from knee surgery, then missed 14 games mid-year with an upper-body ailment. Nonetheless, he tallied six goals and 12 points in 57 games.

A former first-round pick of the Maple Leafs in 2006, the native of the Czech Republic has notched 17 goals and 38 points in 149 games with Toronto and Carolina.
