Carolina (re)calling for Gerber?

The winds of change could be blowing for Martin Gerber.

The Senators placed the 34-year-old veteran goalie on re-entry waivers yesterday and sources say the Hurricanes have a mild interest in reacquiring Gerber since Ottawa would be on the hook for half of the $850,000 (all terms US) that remains on his contract.

Gerber, who can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, was sent to Ottawa's AHL affiliate in Binghamton last month.

WON CUP

A return to Carolina could make sense as Gerber served as Cam Ward's backup on the Hurricanes' run to a Stanley Cup victory in 2006.

The Sabres and Blue Jackets might also have an interest in Gerber. If he doesn't get picked up today by noon, Gerber will likely finish the season with Binghamton, where he has 6-6-0 record with a 2.90 GAA this season.

Do you think the NHL will ever return to Quebec City?
