CALGARY - After a lengthy search for a new goaltending coach, the Calgary Flames realized their best option had already been on the payroll.

Jordan Sigalet, who worked with the Flames’ puck-stopping prospects for the past three seasons with the since-relocated Abbotsford Heat, has scored the job at the Saddledome.

He replaces Clint Malarchuk, whose contract was not renewed after three campaigns as Calgary’s goaltending coach.

It’s the first big-league coaching gig for the 33-year-old Sigalet, who tended twine in the Boston Bruins’ system and appeared in one NHL game, a 43-second relief stint Jan. 7, 2006, against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
