Veteran defenceman Cory Sarich is mending in hospital following a bike accident Tuesday, reports the Denver Post.

The 35-year-old free agent, who played for the Colorado Avalanche last season, posting a message via Twitter thanking fans for their well wishes.

"(Thanks) to everyone for their support in regards to my accident (Tuesday)," Sarich wrote. "I am blessed to be here and will most likely make a full recovery."

There were no other details concerning his condition, where the accident occurred or which hospital he is recovering at.

The native of Saskatoon is a veteran of 15 NHL seasons with the Avs, Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo Sabres.

In 969 career games, Sarich has 21 goals and 158 points, along with 1,089 penalty minutes.
