CALGARY - Johnny Gaudreau was by far the smallest player at the Calgary Flames development camp.

He was head and shoulders above everyone else, though, when it came to skill and wow factor.

However, the test for the college star, who scored in his NHL debut during the Flames 2013-14 season finale, is to show he’s ready for prime time when training camp opens a couple of months from now.

“You’ve got to make sure you have the right attitude coming in,” said the offensive dynamo after Wednesday’s scrimmage at WinSport to end the summer gathering. “You don’t want to come in thinking you aren’t going to make the team. It’s not a good attitude. Everyone’s fighting for a spot so it’s going to be difficult.

“I’ve got a lot of work for the rest of the summer here. I’m just going to make sure I’m ready to come out here flying for training camp.”

While the rebuilding Flames look to climb back to respectability, there’s no doubt Gaudreau is hoped to be a huge key.
