The Calgary Flames are building up the middle.

The Flames selected Kingston Frontenacs standout Sam Bennett with the fourth-overall pick in Friday's opening round of the NHL Draft, adding a gritty centre who has been compared to Hockey Hall-of-Famer Doug Gilmour.

Before the draft, I had visited Calgary actually and when I got home, I went and saw my parents and was like, Mom, Dad, I want to be a Calgary Flame and I want to play in Calgary. Bennett said.

To have that come true is unbelievable.

After selecting Sean Monahan in the first round one year ago, the Flames hope to have a solid one-two punch up the middle.
