CALGARY - One look at Brian Burke's attire revealed Monday was a big day for the Calgary Flames.

"You know it's an important day when my tie is done up," the Calgary Flames president of hockey operations said as he announced Brad Treliving as the club's new general manager.

The 44-year-old Treliving spent the last seven years with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Burke said Treliving's work in the desert was impressive.

"Brad has learned at the knee of a GM I have great respect for, Don Maloney," Burke said.

"He has a key mind and a reputation as a hard worker."

Treliving said he was eager to sit in the big chair and run his own team.
