Seeing Brian McGrattan score a goal brings an unbridled joy to the rest of the Calgary Flames.

Seeing Brian McGrattan having turned his life around takes that happiness to stratospheric heights.

“From when I knew him in Providence to now, he’s in a completely different place in his life,” said forward Joe Colborne of the Flames policeman he was teammates with a few years ago in the minors. “He’s much more outgoing. He’s the loudest guy in the room, but in Providence, he was really quiet. He was intense, but quiet.

“He’s in a really good spot and it’s nice to see him flourish.”

When the Flames faceoff with the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night at the Saddledome, McGrattan will go in with the hottest offensive streak on the club, having scored in each of the last two games.

Sure, it may not seem like that big of a streak, but we’re talking about a player who has nine tallies in 292 career games.
