His stint at the Saddledome was a success.

His departure didn't turn out too bad, either.

Joe Nieuwendyk starred for the Calgary Flames for eight seasons and was a key piece in the greatest moment in franchise history -- a Stanley Cup celebration in 1989.

When the skilled centre was dealt to Dallas in December 1995, the trade delivered the greatest player in franchise history -- Jarome Iginla.

"The guy was phenomenal. Anytime you put up the type of numbers he did, play as long as he did, win three Stanley Cups with three different teams ... I mean, his record speaks for itself," said Flames legend Lanny McDonald.

"And then, even though he doesn't finish his career here in Calgary, it's one of the best all-time trades, where Nieuwendyk goes to Dallas and the Flames get Jarome Iginla.

"Everybody wins."
