Life is all quiet on the western front.

Brian Burke isn’t expecting it to remain that way for long as far as the Calgary Flames are concerned.

With the Olympic break now in the rearview mirror and the March 5 trade deadline coming up fast, Burke is all too aware how tame the NHL’s trade winds have been to this point.

But Burke fully believes the storm is coming.

“There’s always a frenetic, frantic pace at the end,” the Flames president of hockey operations and interim GM said while sitting in his office Tuesday afternoon after returning from the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

“Human nature is if you think you can make your team better, you do it and price tags don’t mean as much at the deadline. I think there will be a lot of movement.”

Especially, he admitted, with his team.

“I’ve talked to all the GMs. I know what teams are trying to do. I know what their capability is, cap-wise,” Burke said.
