CALGARY - It’s exactly what Bob Hartley didn’t want to see.

Following a 10-day break, the Calgary Flames head coach was doing everything in his power to make sure his charges avoided the various muscle pulls that could come along with the eight-day ramp-up period leading into next Thursday’s clash with the Los Angeles Kings (Saddledome, 7:30 p.m., TSN).

Catching an edge and slamming into the boards head-first was the least of his worries.

Until Brian McGrattan did exactly that about 20 minutes into Thursday’s practice at Saddledome, putting the skate on hold for a few minutes while teammates and trainers tended to the fallen tough guy.

Eventually, McGrattan gingerly glided off under his own power, but it didn’t look good.
