CALGARY - The Calgary Flames insist fans who happened to catch the team’s logo featured on animated high-tech stadium concept on the Discovery Channel did not get a sneak preview of the team’s new building.
Unlike the video-game leak earlier this season that previewed the Flames third jerseys long before the club was ready to unveil them, president Ken King assured fans the club has still not finalized design concepts on the planned rink.
The one featured on a recent broadcast of “Daily Planet” showed a high-tech “transforming stadium” from an architectural firm called Populous asked to come up with a way to turn a 20,000-seat stadium into an intimate concert bowl for 7,000 to 8,000. The fold-down roof panels that turned into walls made for a compelling video on the show but what tweaked interest locally was the flaming ‘C’ at centre ice.
King said it was a “mistake” by Populous, more than anything else.
