CALGARY - For Ladislav Smid to miss a game, you know it’s serious.

We’re talking about an NHL defenceman who is proud about the job he does blocking shots and throwing checks.

But the veteran blueliner was back practising Monday with the Calgary Flames and says he should be able to suit up for Tuesday’s clash with the Chicago Blackhawks.

“I was really sore and really stiff,” Smid said about why he missed Friday’s clash with the Nashville Predators. “We just decided to take a few days off and work on the injury. It really helped.

“I’m a lot better. I can move again pretty smoothly and the pain is pretty much gone.”

If Smid can’t play, the Flames will dress Chris Breen, but rest assured Flames head coach Bob Hartley loves having Smid in the mix.
