CALGARY - This is Chris Breen’s big chance.
Looked at in one way, it could be perceived as the last chance for the big defenceman to show the Calgary Flames he’s an NHL player.
From another angle, it can be seen as Breen’s golden opportunity.
The latter is the view the 24-year-old is taking after being summoned from the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat.
“This is the shot everyone dreams of,” Breen said after Monday’s practice at the Saddledome. “I want to come in here, and I want to prove to them that I belong here and am worthy of a lot of years here. That’s what I’ve come here to do.”
Whether Breen suits up when the Flames play host to the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday remains to be seen, but the 6-foot-7, 225-lb. defenceman is expected to see some regular game action in the final 30 contests of the season.
He has his marching orders.
