Mark Giordano’s Olympic dreams aren’t over yet.

Despite the fact he wasn’t one of the eight defencemen named to Canada’s 25-man Winter Olympic Games hockey roster Tuesday morning, Team Canada executive director Steve Yzerman says Giordano is still very much part of the discussion when it comes to potential injury replacements.

“Mark Giordano was a player we discussed and was in consideration,” said Yzerman in a post-announcement conference call Tuesday.

“And in the event of injury, he could potentially remain in consideration.”

It was the first public admission the Flames captain has, indeed, been on Hockey Canada’s radar throughout his stellar NHL season despite the fact he wasn’t one of 17 blueliners invited to the pre-season ball-hockey bonanza in Calgary.

Giordano learned Tuesday his is one of several names submitted to the Canadian Olympic Committee by Hockey Canada for possible inclusion in the 2014 Winter Olympics Games.
