Brian Burke promised to beef up the Calgary Flames.

Enter right-winger Kevin Westgarth.

The Flames acquired the 29-year-old tough guy in Monday’s swap with the Carolina Hurricanes, adding a bit of ... you guessed it ... truculence to their roster.

“I’ve always respected Burkie, himself, and also the way he builds his teams,” Westgarth said. “And I’ve always shared that same philosophy. Obviously, I might be a little biased, but we saw the success he had in Anaheim and even in Toronto, I think the team that is starting to see some success has a lot of his fingerprints on it.

“I think that brand of hockey is exciting to watch and also can yield some pretty damn good results.”

The Flames traded 23-year-old centre Greg Nemisz to the Hurricanes in exchange for Westgarth, who has a salary-cap hit of US$725,000 and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
