CALGARY - The NHL’s Christmas trade freeze ended just past midnight Saturday morning.

Naturally, anyone following the fortunes of the Calgary Flames must be wondering whether Brian Burke has a trigger finger itchy enough to earn a role as an antagonist in a Quentin Tarantino film.

Burke, the president of hockey operations and acting GM, let it be known when he lowered the boom on Jay Feaster and assistant GM John Weisbrod a couple of weeks ago that a rebuild of the team can’t come fast enough for him.

He also said he wants the Flames to be more of a black-and-blue squad.

Until somebody is moved into the GM office at the Saddledome, Burke’s the man fully in charge of making any deals to mould the team into the image he envisions.
