DETROIT - Brian Burke realized he was about to make headlines.

He didn’t expect — in the aftermath of announcing last week that the Calgary Flames had fired GM Jay Feaster and his right-hand man, John Weisbrod — that his hair-do would be such a hot topic.

“My first reaction was, ‘If my hair is a news subject, it’s a slow news day,’ ” Burke said.

Last Thursday was anything but a slow news day at the Saddledome.

Less than three months after joining the Flames as president of hockey operations, Burke was launching the search for a new GM. His phone has been buzzing since.

“Obviously, when you make a change like this, you get flooded with resumes and calls. There’s a lot of people that want to interview for an NHL general manager’s job,” Burke said by phone Thursday from Toronto, hours before the Flames faced off against the Red Wings in Detroit.
