Brian Burke's management team is suddenly shorthanded.

The Calgary Flames announced Thursday morning that GM Jay Feaster and John Weisbrod, the assistant GM of hockey operations, have been fired.

“Jay is my friend,” Burke said. “It's not fun firing a friend.”

Burke, who was hired as Calgary's president of hockey operations in September after stints as a GM in Hartford, Anaheim, Vancouver and Toronto, will serves as the Flames' interim GM but says he's already combing the hockey world for Feaster's replacement.

“That search has already begun,” Burke said. “I did not come here to be a general manager.”

The Flames are currently 11-15-4.

They are set to play the Carolina Hurricanes tonight.
