CALGARY - Just because Sean Monahan wasn’t named to Team Canada’s 25-man camp roster doesn’t mean he won’t be playing in the world juniors.

A team spokesman confirmed the Calgary Flames are in fact contemplating loaning the 19-year-old centre to Brent Sutter’s Canadian squad for the Christmas tournament.

Official word from the Flames is that GM Jay Feaster “won’t make an announcement until a decision is made.”

In other words, the door isn’t shut on sending Monahan to Team Canada’s camp starting Dec. 12 in Toronto with designs he’ll head to Malmo, Sweden for the tourney that ends Sunday, Jan. 5.

The 25-man invite list was announced Monday by Hockey Canada, and while Calgarians Matt Dumba, Hunter Shinkaruk and Josh Morrissey were all on that list, Monahan was left off it.
