CALGARY - As if Wednesday's loss to the Chicago Blackhawks wasn't painful enough, Thursday brought more bad news for the Calgary Flames.

The team announced that workhorse defenceman Dennis Wideman and rookie sensation Sean Monahan are both out indefinitely due to injuries.

Wideman suffered a broken hand in the third period of Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the defending Stanley Cup champs at the Saddledome. He'll require surgery to insert a pin and will be out of Calgary's lineup for the next six to eight weeks. The 30-year-old has been averaging 26:14 a night this season, more than any other member of the Flames.
