CALGARY - A new set of wheels? Why not?

An extra cup of joe? Couldn’t hurt, right?

Having sweat through 15 consecutive contests without a goal (and that doesn’t even include three frustrating nights as a healthy scratch), Calgary Flames left-winger Sven Baertschi was willing to try anything.

“It’s almost like when you score, it doesn’t matter what you do. Then, you’re not that superstitious because it just works,” Baertschi said. “When you have a lot of chances and the puck doesn’t go in, then you get really superstitious and try to do new things and try to figure something out.”

Like so many of those earning paycheques in professional sports, Baertschi could be described as a creature of habit. But when you’re an offensive-minded guy and it’s been 44 days since one of your shots hit the back of the net, habits can change in a hurry.
