It was the No. 1 question for the Calgary Flames.

It still is.

With just two NHL pre-season games left on their slate, the Flames puck-stopping situation — specifically, who inherits the starting job from just-retired Miikka Kiprusoff? — remains unsettled.

“Still don’t know,” Flames head coach Bob Hartley said after Sunday’s training camp session at WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre. “They’ll have, basically, to prove themselves on a daily basis.”

Monday belongs to Karri Ramo, the two-time KHL all-star who will get the start — and is expected to go the distance — in a pre-season showdown with the New York Rangers at the Saddledome (7 p.m., Sportsnet Fan960).

Joey MacDonald will be Ramo’s backup against the Blueshirts, while Reto Berra, who is trying to get comfortable in North America after five seasons in Switzerland’s National League, will likely be between the pipes for Wednesday’s exhibition finale against the Phoenix Coyotes.
