CALGARY - It may just be a letter on the sweater, but the importance wasn’t lost on Mark Giordano.
The newly named Calgary Flames captain couldn’t contain his excitement over being named the 19th captain in franchise history.
“It’s pretty humbling to me to think people in the organization think that highly of me,” Giordano said moments after slipping on the sweater following Friday’s practice at WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre.
“It’s one of the best days in my career.”
Giordano took the torch left unattended after Jarome Iginla was traded away midway through last season. Iginla was captain of the team since the start of the 2003-04 NHL season.
